Tom Yum Soup
TOM YUM SOUP OR THAI HOT AND SOUR SOUP
Tom Yum is considered central region food but is widely popular throughout the country. Tom Yum soup is made with mixed herb broth consists of lemongrass, galangal, and kaffir lime leaf. Onion or shallot may also be added for sweetness or use sugar as substitution. Straw mushrooms and tomato are the most common vegetable accompany the soup. Cilantro is generally used for garnish. Fish sauce, lime juice, and fresh Thai chili are used to season the soup.
IN THAILAND, THERE ARE MANY VERSIONS OR SLIGHT ALTERATION OF TOM YUM SOUP VARIES BY REGION AND RECIPE, However, the are two main types including the creamy Tom Yum soup and the clear Tom Yum soup. At Busaba, we choose to serve the simpliest and most common Tom Yum soup found in Thailand; the clear broth Tom Yum soup.
Most foreigners may have heard of Tom Yum Goong which translates to shrimp Tom Yum soup. However, Tom yum may also be served with chicken, fish, or seafood. Pork or beef Tom Yum can also be found but is certainly less common than the aforementioned option.
